From factory floors to front desks: Top humanoid robot makers to watch

According to China’s National Bureau of Statistics, the country produced 143,608 sets of industrial robots in the first two months of 2026, a 31% increase year-on-year. For the full year of 2025, industrial robot production reached 773,074 sets, up 28% from the previous year. But the numbers only tell part of the story. Robots are no longer just performing choreographed dances at trade shows. They are now sorting batteries in car factories, inspecting power grids in remote substations, and greeting customers in Beijing pharmacies with 99% order accuracy. The ‘ChatGPT moment’ is closer than you think At the Boao Forum for Asia Annual Conference 2026, everyone was asking the same question: when will humanoid robots have their “ChatGPT moment” and go mainstream? Few agreed on the timeline. Wang Xiaogang, co-founder of SenseTime and chairman of Daxiao Robot, said it could happen in two years — once the industry racks up 10 million hours of real-world training data. Others think it'll take a decade. But here’s what almost everyone agreed on: the industry has stopped showing off and started getting to work. You can see it on the factory floor. In March, Xiaomi released real-world test results from its electric vehicle die-casting plant. Its humanoid robot ran autonomously for three consecutive hours, installing self-tapping nuts with a 90% success rate — all while keeping pace with the production line’s 76-second cycle time. It’s not a demo. It’s actual work. What makes China’s robotics ecosystem unstoppable If you want to understand why China is pulling ahead in the humanoid race, don’t start with the robots. Start with what’s underneath them. Supply chain speed is the advantage: In Shenzhen, a robotics startup can source high-torque actuators, precision harmonic drives, and rare-earth magnet motors within a 30-minute drive. This “half-hour supporting circle” means prototypes that take Western companies 18 months to iterate can be revised in 3–6 months. Real-world data is the edge: China has established a growing network of humanoid robot training facilities, including two national-level centers in Beijing and Shanghai, with regional hubs across the country. These facilities are collectively amassing millions of real-world training data points annually. And these aren’t sanitized lab environments; they’re 1:1 replicas of real factories, warehouses, and retail spaces. Clear standards are the shortcut: On February 28, 2026, China released its first national standard system for humanoid robotics, covering six core areas: foundational standards, brain-like computing, hardware components, whole-machine systems, applications, and safety ethics. This isn’t bureaucracy for its own sake but a playbook for scale. As industry moves from the “0 to 1” phase into “1 to 10,” standards are what keep everyone from reinventing the wheel. The results are measurable. According to the International Data Corporation, China's embodied intelligence robot market will top $11 billion in 2026. The country’s service and consumer robotics manufacturers, meanwhile, are expected to account for more than 85% of global shipments. The humanoid companies defining 2026 Our full report profiles the 15 emerging leaders in humanoid robotics, from China’s scale-first manufacturers to America’s AI powerhouses and Europe’s safety-focused designers. Below are four that stand out for very different reasons. UBTech leads in industrial scale. Unitree has cracked affordability. Galbot has proven the business case. And Tesla remains the benchmark everyone else is chasing. Together, they capture where humanoid robotics actually stands today. UBTech: The scale player UBTech Robotics (Shenzhen) achieved the world’s first mass delivery of industrial humanoids in November 2025, with over 1,000 Walker S2 units produced and more than 500 delivered by year-end. Orders exceed 1.4 billion RMB ($200 million), with clients including BYD, Geely, FAW-Volkswagen, and Foxconn. The robot features an autonomous battery-swapping system for 24/7 operation and a fourth-generation dexterous hand with sub-millimeter precision. Unitree: The price breaker Unitree Robotics (Hangzhou) has taken a different path: radical affordability. Its G1 humanoid is priced at $13,500 — a fraction of competitors’ six-figure price tags — making humanoid experimentation accessible to universities and startups worldwide. In February 2026, Unitree’s G1 robots delivered the world’s first fully autonomous humanoid robot cluster martial arts performance at the CMG Spring Festival Gala, achieving aerial flips exceeding 3 meters in height and coordinated movement reaching 4 m/s. Galbot: The business case Galbot (Beijing) is proving the business case. Its G1 robots have completed over 300,000 orders across nearly 100 smart pharmacies nationwide, operating 24/7 with 99% order accuracy and reducing labor costs by more than 50%. The robot also secured strategic deployment agreements with CAT, Baida Precision Machinery, Bosch, Toyota, and Hyundai. Tesla: The benchmark Tesla’s Optimus remains the elephant in the room. In January 2026, Tesla announced plans to begin mass production of Optimus Gen 3 at its Fremont factory, targeting an annual capacity of 1 million units by the end of the year. Over 1,000 Optimus robots are already deployed internally across Tesla’s facilities for battery cell sorting and parts handling. But as Elon Musk acknowledged, Tesla’s toughest competitors are coming from China. Want to see this firsthand? Reading about trends is one thing. In healthcare, Fourier Intelligence built a robot called the GR-3, and they didn’t go the industrial route. It’s soft to the touch. It has an expressive face. Thirty-one pressure sensors run across its body so it can actually feel where you’re touching it. They call it a “care-bot,” and it’s designed for companionship, not heavy lifting. That matters because China’s elderly population is expected to hit 400 million by 2035. You can’t staff your way out of that. But you might be able to augment your way out. In the home, 1X Technologies’ Neo Beta is aimed at homes, priced at $20,000 or $499 a month. The company just struck a deal with EQT, a massive private equity firm, to roll out up to 10,000 units across EQT’s portfolio between now and 2030. That’s warehouses, factories, hospitals, you name it. In logistics, Agility’s Digit is already out there doing real work. Amazon has it in R&D warehouses. Toyota, Schaeffler, and GXO are using it commercially. GXO alone has logged over 100,000 tote-handling tasks with Digit. That’s not a pilot anymore. That’s a track record. And then there’s the spectacle that’s actually useful. At this year’s Spring Festival Gala — in front of an audience of a billion people — Unitree rolled out dozens of G1 robots and had them do a fully autonomous martial arts routine. Aerial flips, coordinated movement, the whole thing. But this wasn’t just showboating. Every flip, every recovery, every split-second adjustment generated data. That data will end up back in factories, warehouses, and probably your neighborhood pharmacy sooner than you think. What enterprises need to know now If you’re an executive trying to figure out where humanoid robots fit in your business, here’s what the numbers are telling you. The economics are shifting. Component costs for robot assembly in China are expected to drop 16% this year alone. Morgan Stanley sees average selling prices in the U.S. falling from $200,000 in 2024 to $75,000 by 2050. But that forecast might already be dated — Unitree is already selling its G1 for $13,500. The pricing playbook just got thrown out the window. The business models are maturing. In 2026, several approaches are taking shape. Robotics-as-a-service (RaaS) shifts spending from capital expenditures to operating expenses. Hyundai and AgiBot are already offering subscription models. Industrial deployments are selling outcomes, not just hardware. Retail robots are monetizing engagement. Healthcare robots are augmenting overstretched staff. And platform plays are beginning to build developer ecosystems that create long-term lock-in. The workforce impact is real. Here’s what Forrester found: companies aren’t firing people to make room for robots. They’re redeploying them. Let the humanoids handle the repetitive, hazardous, mind-numbing tasks. Let people handle the exceptions, the supervision, the customer-facing stuff. End result? Safer floors, better productivity, and jobs that actually feel more human. The bottom line The real winners won’t be the ones with the flashiest demos. They’ll be the ones that figure out how to build at scale, deploy in the real world, and make the economics work, whether that’s UBTech shipping thousands of robots to car factories or Galbot quietly filling prescriptions when nobody’s watching.
