Zhejiang, Geely deepen ties to build world-class auto cluster

China’s Zhejiang provincial government signed a new strategic cooperation agreement with automobile group Geely, deepening ties as the region seeks to strengthen its position in the global electric‑vehicle supply chain. The agreement aims to broaden industrial coordination, with Zhejiang Geely Holding Group designated as a lead company to drive integration across the automotive value chain, according to a statement Saturday on the automaker’s official WeChat account. The focus will be on smart manufacturing, new‑energy vehicles and connected‑car technologies. Geely’s role in China’s EV supply chain Geely, China’s third-largest automaker by vehicle sales, is a key player in Zhejiang’s automotive ecosystem. The coastal province in eastern China and the company previously signed a strategic framework agreement in 2022 to improve digitalization and sustainability across the sector. The expanded pact is intended to accelerate industrial upgrading and support Zhejiang’s goal of building a world‑class automotive and auto‑parts manufacturing cluster, according to the statement. Zhejiang, known as a cradle of Chinese private enterprise, is home to private companies including Alibaba Group. Authorities plan to leverage the province’s business environment, industrial base and supply‑chain support, alongside Geely’s capabilities in intelligent manufacturing and green technologies. The move comes as Chinese provinces compete to attract investment and secure leadership roles in the fast‑evolving electric‑vehicle industry, where cost, technology and scale are increasingly critical.
